Fort Greene's old Strand Theater first made plans for a $17.3 million makeover-'n'-expansion in 2008, one of several such extreme makeovers in the BAM Cultural District. That renovation will, it turns out, break ground tomorrow, with a 61,000-square-foot Thomas Leeser-designed complex in the cards, complete with three galleries, a theater, a television studio, space for glassworking, and other goodies. The original plans called for construction in, er, 2009 and completion in 2010. [NYT; previously]
