The latest wrinkle in the lawsuit by a group of tenants against the Pinnacle Group, a major rent-stabilized apartment landlord: the tenants want a federal judge to reject the deal their own lawyers made with Pinnacle. The deal calls for a special court administrator to review tenants' claims of rent overcharges?but it would exempt Pinnacle from any pre-2004 claims, and would thus exclude a number of plaintiffs who participated in the class-action suit. The Daily News has a few stories from tenants who were charged $1,200/month when the registered rent for their apartments was only $460. The case returns to court next week. [NYDN]
