Abraham Lincoln is returning to his rightful spot at the center of Grand Army Plaza, though facing south instead of north, which has one Emancipation-minded activist all riled up. The 140-year-old statue has been in exile in a "hidden grove" in Prospect Park and it's been moved back to its original 1869 location. The northern orientation was specifically requested by Prospect Park architect Frederick Law Olmsted, which historian Richard Kessler suggests was a taunt to the nearby mansion of the Astor family, which "hated Lincoln’s anti-slavery agenda."
