Lawsuits

A crooked rabbi and a stolen building walk into a bar—well, not quite, but this story about a shady real estate rabbi named Benjamin Herbst is pretty golden. Herbst and some cohorts are being sued for forging documents and signatures "in order to gain title to properties they do not own and also leverage money against them." As in the case of 315 West 35th Street, in which another investor purchases the debt on a building and is then scammed an impostor company with a similarly spelled name who recorded the mortgage title. Got that? Stealing buildings! [Real Estate Weekly]
