Following this weekend's news that Park51 and its developer owe Con Edison $1.7 million in back rent, Sharif El-Gamal talks to the Wall Street Journal about plans to recoup the money. In addition to the Islamic cultural center, he's now "exploring commercial uses" (i.e. anything that might actually make money), like condominiums, a hotel and an office tower. One idea rejected as unviable was a "Soho House for Muslims," similar to the private members' club with outposts around the globe. Nope, can't see any problems with that plan. [WSJ; previously]
