Landlord Cooper Union has handed down a no to St. Mark's Bookshop's request for a $5,000 rent reduction. A Cooper Union finance VP apparently told the bookstore's owners the school is "broke" and can't afford the rent cut; their only option right now is to defer a month's rent and take some time to pay it back. The store owners plan to plead their case with Cooper Union's president next. [NYDN]
