A couple of weeks ago, outgoing Port Authority boss Chris Ward called for moving Red Hook's shipping containers south along the Brooklyn shoreline to clear access for waterfront development, and the agency's subsequent canceled lease with shipping container manager American Stevedoring seemed to suggest that very possibility. Phoenix Beverage was then issued a one-year lease on the property, interpreted as a placeholder deal. Now, The Observer reports that Port Authority and Phoenix are hashing out a longer 10-year deal, which isn't to say that an eventual move to Sunset Park has been ruled out: "There is no abrupt getting ride of containers in the near term. The idea is Phoenix will build up its business, grow its market share, and when it is ready to move, it will move." [NYO]
