A perturbed Community Board 13 is losing its battle with city officials in the effort to stop a plan that would turn Coney Island's boardwalk into a concretewalk. Officials plan to replace the stretch of boardwalk between Brighton/15th Street and Coney Island Avenue with concrete, insisting the material's cheaper, sturdier–and better for vehicles driving on the boardwalk. Move over, pedestrians! The city's Public Design Commission is set to give the $7.4 million project the thumbs-up or -down sometime this month. [NYDN]
