Hotel Chelsea in Full, Un-Subtle Renovation Mode

New, 3 comments

The Real Deal pops into the Hotel Chelsea to get a look at all the Chetrified renovations inside its storied walls, and that demolition promise was no joke. You may recall Gene Kaufman's plans for a "subtle" renovation including lobby expansion, spiffed-up retail spaces, and an un-quirking of the hotel floorplan. At present,
"Workers have gutted the east wing of the building’s seventh floor, an area once inhabited by novelist William S. Burroughs and actor Ethan Hawke, residents said. A visit by The Real Deal yesterday revealed that walls, doors and fixtures have been removed, leaving piles of wood and debris in their place."
Subtle, it is not.
