New Yorkers have filed $27 million worth of claims against the city and the MTA for "injuries caused by cracked sidewalks" along a 14-block stretch of the Upper East Side where the Second Avenue subway is under construction. The suits, covering Second Avenue from 87th to 101st streets, were filed by seven New Yorkers, including one who was hit by a cab and filed a $5M suit and another who tripped and fractured an elbow for another $5 million suit. The city paid out a total of $34.9 million in cracked sidewalk-related claims last year for the entire city. [NYP]
