Page Six hears that Standard hotelier Andre Balazs will close on his $90 million purchase of the Cooper Square Hotel today. As for what he will do to recreate the place as the Standard East, here's the rumor: "the 105-room hotel’s public spaces will be reconfigured, its rooms refurbished and its restaurants overhauled," but with a more "intimate and residential" feel than at the Standard itself. Since Balazs once called the Cooper Square Hotel "a travesty of architecture," he probably wishes he could do more. [NYP; previously]
