Finalists for 2012 P.S.1 Architecture Installation Announced

New, 2 comments

The Architect's Newspaperhas the scoop on the five architecture teams competing for next summer's MoMA P.S.1 awesome-making courtyard installation. The competition has been prime breeding ground for small-firms-turned-large, including SHoP Architects, SO-IL, and WorkAC.

The 2012 batch combines Paris-based AEDS Ammar Eloueini (small-scale residential focused in New Orleans, Issey Miyake stores); IK Studio, established in 2007 when the partners met at school in London; UrbanLab, an architecture/research lab examining American cities and "American-style megalopolises"; Cameron Wu (assistant professor at Harvard GSD who was worked with James Carpenter and Preston Scott Cohen); and Hollwich Kushner (HWKN), the only local firm in the running, whose work you may recall from the Uniqlo cubes and High Line ephemera.

The winner will be selected in February, which is when things get really zany since many of the runners-up are as outlandish as what gets built. Pole Dance, anyone?
