Sorry, Greenpoint history fans: the Historic Districts Council has dropped its support of an expansion to the Greenpoint Historic District. The historic district now stretches from Kent Street to Calyer Street between Franklin Street and Manhattan Avenue; the expansion would have included another 10-block section of Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street. Paul Rubenfarb, who proposed the extension, can still apply to the Landmarks Preservation Commission, but approval is unlikely, since the LPC only gives the thumbs-up to about three extensions out of 300 applications every year.
