East Village preservationists now have something to thank developer Ben Shaoul for: his purchase of 315 East 10th Street has led the Landmarks Preservation Commission to expedite the public hearing date for the East 10th Street Historic District. The LPC made the decision because Shaoul's Magnum Real Estate Group filed for a permit to build a rooftop addition, and that addition "could potentially affect the character of the proposed district," an LPC spokesperson tells EV Grieve. The LPC has 40 days to vote on the district while the DOB reviews the permit application. [EVG]
