Queens Residents Back to Hoping for Their Own High Line

New, 11 comments

Today in High Line copycats, please welcome the abandoned Rockaway Beach branch of the Long Island Rail Road. The line, out of service for almost 50 years, stretches between Rego Park and Ozone Park, and Community Board 9 chair Andrea Crawford is currently trying to rally folks behind the idea of turning it into a park, according to the Daily News. Neighbors' concerns about private property and security shut down one previous rail-to-park effort for the Rockaway Beach line, but current supporters are try, trying again, and they've already met with city agency reps and hope to form a non-profit.
