Now that Cornell has been selected to establish an applied sciences campus on Roosevelt Island, will it translate to jobs for our metro-economy or will any employment gains be siphoned off by the suburbs? The goal is to recreate the collaborative atmosphere that bonds researchers and engineers to urban communities like Cambridge, MA, instead of models of the past, where lower cost space in the suburbs attracted industries like pharmaceutical manufacturers.
