'Pedestrians Over Bikes, Right or Wrong' Says Councilman

New, 8 comments

City Councilman James Vacca of the Bronx wants to rein in the free-wheeling days of expanded bike lanes in the city, and is proposing a number of regulations to protect pedestrians from commercial bike riders. The Bronx Democrat, who chairs the Council's Transportation Committee, also wants the Dept. of Transportation (led by the bête noire of anti-cycling activists Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan) to submit to the council and other local politicians master plans for the installation of bike lanes on city roads. Vacca told the Post: “My priority is protection of the pedestrians, and my mantra is that the pedestrian is always right, even when the pedestrian is wrong. Everything I do is governed by that basic foundation." [NYP]
