Mayor Bloomberg isn't much of a gambler personally, and he doesn't believe it's good for New York's economy. But he won't fight publicly against gaming in New York, unless the city doesn't get its cut of the tax revenues from the industry. The mayor's position is that he feels gambling is distasteful and a regressive way to raise funds, but if people are gambling he'd rather New York wet its beak in the proceeds rather than give them all away to another state or city. The Aqueduct racetrack (now a "racino") in Queens added slot machines in November. [WSJ]
