Public opinion on the architecture of Bruce Ratner's Atlantic Yards project began as voluntary rapture for Gehry's Miss Brooklyn, backlashed to betrayed resentment with Ellerbe Beckett's cow barn arena, and have settled into a bemused boredom with SHoP's modular pre-fab rental towers. The new buildings have all the brashness of incoming neighbors who are aware that their arrival was preceded by a shitshow, including the forced departure of longtime neighborhood fixtures, and are now trying to remain as innocuous and inoffensive as possible.
