The Robert A.M. Stern-designed Museum for African Art, which sits below new condos at 1280 Fifth Avenue, is almost finished. One archicritic weighs in: "while there are no doubt good intentions behind the design of the museum development?they're being executed with considerable banality. The whole project resembles the condo towers being built near the Williamsburg waterfront these days: huge, contemporary boxes of glass, concrete panels and metal that have as little character as the chain retail stores that populate their ground floors."
