Cat Fancy: Architects Design Upscale Shelters for Cats

New, 1 comment

Above is a sneak preview of the shelter designed by architectural firm Gage/Clemenceau for the second annual Giving Shelter event, sponsored by Architects for Animals. (Obligatory deets: the event's happening tonight from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Steelcase Showroom, 4 Columbus Circle.) The event enlists architects and designers from big-time firms to design creative winter shelters for feral cats. This year's other participants include FXFowle, H3, RMJM, The Switzer Group, and more.

This event doesn't produce the only architecturally ambitious houses for animals, but it must be producing the greatest quantity on a year by year basis. Not only that, but all the houses are subsequently donated to the New York City Feral Cat Initiative. That hardly seems right. Shouldn't the cat athletes, cat movie stars, and cat financiers get a crack at them first?

Tickets to the exhibition will be available at the door for a suggested donation of $20, with proceeds going to the New York City Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor’s Alliance.
