Development Update-o-Rama

Community Board 3's Land Use Zoning subcommittee met about the "dead carcass" that is 255 East Houston last night?and maybe it's not so dead. The developer wants a commercial zoning overlay for the property, with the ultimate goal of demolishing it in order to build a market-rate residential tower (perhaps with some affordable housing). What the zoning overlay would do: allow the developer to bring on more profitable commercial tenants on the ground floor, rather than a community facility. But the community board isn't exactly, uh, on board so far. [Bowery Boogie]
