What would Manhattan look like if the city planners of old dropped the idea of the street grid in favor of, say, Paris? Probably like the above Google Maps illustration, created for a digital design class at Columbia and shared by Untapped New York. Frenchman Charles-Antoine Perrault created the mash-up, explaining, "I covered Manhattan with Paris Left Bank streets. You might recognise Gare Montparnasse on the right and the Invalides in the top left corner. Pretty fun to imagine New Yorkers lost in Manhattan without their grid!" Another student took the fun a step further and superimposed the Parisian streets onto the original 1807 street grid plan. Kids today!
