New Private School on the High Line Gets a Passing Grade

New, 4 comments

CHELSEA?Recent media coverage and splashy full-page ads have made the planned conversion of a Tenth Avenue warehouse into an ultra-exclusive K-12 private school sound like a fait accompli, but that's not the case. Today, however, the Avenues school took a major step forward with a 6-4 approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission regarding alterations to the Cass Gilbert-designed building (which is in the West Chelsea Historic District), including a new gym and basketball court on the roof. Guess a D- is good enough at this academic institution. The LPC also voted to support the school's application for a height waiver from the City Planning Commission. [CurbedWire Staff]
