New York's Taxi of Tomorrow to Speak Turkish?

New, 19 comments

Three car companies have been duking it out to design New York's "Taxi of Tomorrow," with the winner getting a 10-year deal to be the exclusive provider of the next fleet of yellow cabs, first expected to hit the streets in 2014. The competitors are Ford, Nissan and Turkish manufacturer Karsan, who we assumed was a long shot until reports indicated that the Turks might take the cake (sorry, baklava). The city held an online poll, and the Karsan V1 won 65% of the vote, with Nissan running second. The Taxi and Limousine Commission is under no obligation to strike a deal with Karsan, but we've seen what happens in that region of the world when leaders don't listen to the people.
