As troubled condo conversion the Apthorp struggled to sell units, we started noticing a pattern: the celebrity visitor, meant to draw attention away from negative press. If there's another Upper West Side project that could use the help from a boldface name or two, it's the Rushmore. But there's a difference: at the lawsuit-plagued Rushmore, the famous folks are actually buying (or renting). Maybe the buyer backouts freed up some room? Robin Williams recently rented a $15K/month 4BR to live in during his Broadway debut. A-Rod has a deal to pay between $5.5 million and $6 million for the building's 35th floor. And now, the Times reports, famed violinist Pinchas Zukerman is also in contract at the building. He's planning to buy a 1,712-square-foot 3BR, 3BA on the 23rd floor. We don't see a listing, but the ask was $2.734 million. Zukerman tells the Times he's a big Yankees fan, so maybe he and A-Rod can play some catch right outside.
