Long Island College Hospital's Lamm Institute Building, thought of by neighbors (with fondness, of course) as the Amity Street Horror, found a buyer about two weeks ago. The building had a long serious of struggles with the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the sales market, but the three new owners want the $3.6 million property?the sale apparently did not include three neighboring Henry Street lots?to pick itself up right away. Their architect appeared before a Community Board 6 committee last night to discuss the planned conversion, and Brownstoner took some notes. The 14,000-square-foot building will be divided into three units with separate entryways, and there will be a rooftop addition five feet wider than the one given the thumbs-up a while back by the LPC. Construction should take about a year, and the owners would like it to start ASAP. The CB6 folks liked what they saw, but will the rest of the neighbors?
