Is the East Village no place to raise a family? First Ivanka Trump and Jared Kusher announce plans to ditch Astor Place now that The Donald's daughter is knocked up, and today the Post's Jennifer Gould Keil reports that Top Chef hostess Padma Lakshmi?currently going through a very public custody battle?is thinking about following suit. Lakshmi, whose bio also includes stints as a model, cookbook author and wife of Salman Rushdie, owns a drool-worthy $1.65 million loft on Second Street near Avenue B. Even if Alphaville is out, Keil reports that Lakshmi still wants to keep things below 14th Street. She has been spotted checking out "multiple downtown residences," including this $10.995 million 5BR/4.5BA whopper in The Greenwich at 65 West 13th Street. Like Hillary Clinton once said, it takes the Village to raise a child.
The 4,535-square-foot apartment is some serious floorplan porn when it comes to downtown condos (this one's pre-war, which could explain it). The listing, from Brown Harris Stevens (whose snazzy website redesign finally means some big photos!), mentions of all sorts of unusual details, like a hand-painted eclipse on the ceiling above the grand piano, and a "carved medallion on the floor inspired by Andrea Palladio's villa La Rotunda in Vicenza, Italy." According to StreetEasy the apartment has been on the market without a price cut since August 2009, and it last sold in 2001 for just $3.5 million. Hey, prices have gone up a bit since then. Here's that floorplan. Not bad for basic cable.
