And now, the latest from Racked NY, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.
1) East Village/LES: Is anyone crazy enough to take on Whole Foods on its own turf? Yep, Brooklynites! The borough's Union Market is currently building out 6,000 square feet of space at the bottom of the fire-scarred East Houston Street building next to Red Square, UM's first Manhattan outpost. The store will bring "a little bit of Brooklyn to Manhattan," which we guess means bushy beards and lots of things in jars.
2) Upper East Side: A Madison Avenue babywear designer and "maternity concierge" is getting a Bravo reality show about catering to fabulous Upper East Side moms-to-be. The show is called Pregnant in Heels. You have our permission to light yourself on fire.
3) Dumbo: The local boys made good at Brooklyn Industries have been on a hue expansion tear in places that aren't New York. Now they're coming back to the borough that made them. Check out the deets on the new Dumbo store.
