Little Italy in Mourning

New, 1 comment

One Little Italy tradition is being threatened, but another lives on, though that may be a poor choice of words. Downtown activist Sean Sweeney describes the traditional Italian funeral procession that just took place for departed local legend Anne Compoccia, "like a scene from The Godfather," Sweeney writes. The battle over San Gennaro has highlighted the declining Italian population in the neighborhood, and residents think Compoccia's tribute may have been the last of its kind in Little Italy. [NearSay]
