Little League Parents Want to Take Bats to West Village Nudie Club

New, 8 comments

New West Side strip club-turned-lounge Westway has been in the works for some time, with a plan for go-go dancing on Sunday and Monday nights and a run-of-the-mill club the rest of the week. We could see where there might be some confusion about that, though, because the building at 75 Clarkson Street (right) is next to an XXX-rated video store and has been home to a couple of strip clubs. And to rile up the neighbors just a little more, the Westway's proprietors are Matt Kliegman and Carlos Quirarte, the folks behind the Jane Ballroom. So where's the backlash? In angry letters to the State Liquor Authority from the Greenwich Village Little League and Downtown Little League, according to The Villager. The problem, say the letters, is that kids on their way to practice at Pier 40 will be traumatized by "sexualized 'red light district' imagery, rowdy partygoers and alcohol consumption." The west side hasn't seen a strip club controversy this big since the Sapphire. Won't somebody think of the children?
