Not many people are talking about the looming showdown over the renewal of rent-regulation laws (they expire in June), but Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is trying to change that. Silver just unveiled a report called "The New Housing Emergency," which says the city is losing more than 10,000 rent-protected apartments each year.
