Today in Adventurous Street Furniture: The Zipper Bench!

New, 9 comments

It's been six whole months since architects tried reinventing the city bench, which is far too long. Luckily the Archpaper blog points us to the new zipper benches in Peter Minuit Plaza, right in front of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The skateboard-proof benches are the work of WXY, and here's the scoop: "The sinuous design begins as two benches facing opposite directions before zipping up and melding into one surface offering the sitter a choice of two views." That's great and all, but what about the most important function of a city bench? Is it comfortable to catch a few winks on, or what?
