Thom Mayne Designing Restaurant in Former West Side Wasteland

New, 1 comment

The hotties who hang out on the roof of massive Far West Side rental tower 505 West 37th Street are finally getting a place to replenish the nutrients lost in the hot tub. The Post's Lois Weiss reports that Ark Restaurants has recruited the former chef and owner of Chanterelle to oversee an upscale and modern restaurant that will open in the ground floor of the TF Cornerstone tower, which is doing quite well these days. Here's the real shocker: Morphosis's Thom Mayne?of Cooper Union spaceship fame?is designing the 10,530-square-foot restaurant, which is scheduled to open on Dec. 1.

A Pritzker Prize-winning architect lending his talents to a restaurant in a rental building near the Lincoln Tunnel? Guess those who laughed off suggestions that the Hudson Yards area? The Linc, if you will?is becoming trendy can eat their words. Preferably while sitting on whatever crazy staircase Thom Mayne dreams up for this place. And as far as the neighborhood's amenities arms race goes, it's your move, MiMA.
