Reality TV Star's Store Seized; FAO Schwartz in Lease Spat

New, 1 comment

And now, the latest from Racked NY, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Nolita: A spot on Bravo's Fashion Show and repeated mockings on The Soup apparently hasn't helped the business of designer Calvin Tran. His Mulberry Street store was just seized for non-payment of rent.

2) Midtown: Will FAO Schwartz have to roll up its big electric floor piano and leave Fifth Avenue? The store (now owned by Toys 'R Us) is trying to extend its lease on the well-known GM Building space, but landlord Boston Properties is giving them guff. Maybe Tom Hanks will step in and mediate.

3) East Village: Where does a Bowery boutique owner who is too busy to shop make time to browse the goods? At The Sock Man on St. Marks Place, whose proprietor Chloe Sevigny famously called the grumpiest man in the world. Didn't see that one coming.
