The Cheapest Way to Live in the Apthorp: $3,500/Month Rentals

New, 5 comments

With even the discounted insider sales at the Apthorp costing a significant chunk of change (and that's before the flip attempts), is there any way for shallower-pocketed new residents to get into the storied Upper West Side building? Yes?with a willingness to rent, settle for small spaces, and take the brokerbabble with a grain of salt. Two Apthorp rentals have recently had their asks chopped to $3,500/month, the lowest rents currently on offer in the building (the next most expensive: $16,000/month).
The first listing is the 763-square-foot 1BR, 1BA PHQ (which sold at the presumably insider price of $233,077). The second listing is also for a penthouse, a 675-square-foot 1BR with a "huge roof deck" that we're guessing isn't private. But in the odd world of the Apthorp, the penthouses are the former servants' quarters. Says the brokerbabble for one of them, "feel as if you are sitting in rome staring at aqueducts." Some tenants might agree?if we're talking aqueduct ruins.
