There's been a lot of talk about what the SPURA development means for the future of the LES's Essex Street Market, but a big part of its past is in jeopardy. Jeffrey's Meat Market, an original tenant of the city-owned 70-year-old market, has shuttered, perhaps temporarily, to "re-group," according to fourth-generation butcher Jeffrey Ruhalter. The EDC is trying to work with Jeffrey's to keep it slicin' and dicin', but the LES original has serious financial problems. [The Lo-Down]
