And now, the latest from Racked NY, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.
1) East Village: The spirit of CBGBs and its neighboring CB's Gallery kinda-sorta-not-really lived on in what replaced them, a punk-themed John Varvatos boutique and the rockthentic Morrison Hotel gallery. But those connections to the past appeared to be severed when the Morrison Hotel space at 313 Bowery hit the market in 2009. The gallery survived, but now it's back on the leasing market, as is the secretish Extra Place event space beneath the Morrison Hotel. Paging Duane Reade?
2) Upper East Side: Viennese fine jeweler Frey Wille just opened their NY flagship on Madison Avenue, which we point out only because we keep reading their name as "Free Willy." Will this hurt their American expansion efforts?
3) Noho: Which ultra-hip Bond Street boutique is getting exported for some fun in the summer sun? You probably didn't guess Oak, the dark, edgy, super-urban shop that probably doesn't belong anywhere near the beach. And yet an Oak pop-up is coming to Fire Island this year.
