So contemporary art can flourish, the old Meatpacking District must be chipped away. Above, the remains of 555 West Street, a vacant building that was used by meat companies up until 2008. It is being demolished to make room for Renzo Piano's new Whitney Museum next to the High Line, which will break ground on May 24. Maybe some of those twisted scraps can be turned into a sculpture?
