Some residents of 610 East 9th Street in the East Village have written to EV Grieve to describe the joys of living in a building that's currently undergoing heavy-duty renovations, which mostly seem like an effort to drive rent-stabilized tenants out. The landlord isn't offering much by way of a buyout (just one month of free rent), so the tenants are sticking it out despite not having gas for cooking since February and occasionally coughing up blood. The renovated apartments are going for $2300 to $3200 per month. [EV Grieve]
