It's Not Easy Being Green

New, 8 comments

So much for efforts at green building. A report out today from the Urban Green Council reports that New York City buildings spend $130 million to $180 million per year in extra fuel consumption as a result of air conditioners that let air leak out because they don't fit properly. Sometimes the fuel lost as a result of leaks from a building is as high as that building's total cooling costs. But residents are often reluctant to remove their air conditioners due to the cost of paying professionals and (shocker) lack of storage space for the A/C units. [NYT]
