Here's One Brooklyn Townhouse You Won't Find in a History Book

They say a tree grows in Brooklyn but not at 420 State Street, a vacant Boerum Hill lot that has sprouted, duh, fancy new real estate. But these ain't condos. Behind that modern facade, revealed by Brownstoner, lies a single-family townhouse. Who would dare challenge Brooklyn's brownstone domination in this way? An architect, of course. The land was snapped up for $525,000 in 2009 by Ben Hansen, who also filed the permit applications with the DOB. Hansen designed Tribeca's glassy new 471 Washington Street, which fits about as well in that neighborhood as this does in Boerum Hill. But you know what they say about the new: In with it!
