Long-time newsstand operator Jerry Delakas, whose been working at the stand at the corner of Astor Place and Lafayette Street since 1987, might be getting the boot. Delakas arranged with the stand's owner to run it for a small fee, and they agreed the arrangement would continue after her death. But her husband technically inherited the license, and since he had no plans to run the stand himself, the city denied his license renewal. Delakas is hoping the city will change its mind, but his doom was probably spelled when his stand became a Cemusa box. [NYDN]
