1 World Trade Center's Base Losing Its Glass Cladding

New, 10 comments

Things are getting kind of sticky over at 1 World Trade Center. It looks like the 185-foot-tall base of the tower isn't really taking to its planned prismatic glass paneling. After $10 million already blown, the panels were bowing after they were cut and tempered. They were also designed to break into tiny pieces in case of something like an explosion but instead they were breaking into large pieces. That would, you know, do a lot more harm to anyone close by. It's kind of sad that this relatively inexpensive $82 million fraction of the $3.2 billion construction is being fudged up so bad. Might we suggest cutting our losses, leaving it as is and just embracing the Pseudo-Brutalist architecture?
