Sneak Peek at Chelsea's New Hôtel Americano

New, 6 comments

Last night, Grupo Habita, the Mexican design-hotel group that counts Basico in Playa del Carmen, Deseo in Mexico City and Boca Chica in Acapulco among its properties, invited friends and family for a first look at the public spaces of the soon-to-open Hôtel Americano on far West 27th Street in Chelsea. Though both his nearby galleries were packed for openings and spilling guests onto the street, dealer Paul Kasmin and artist Kenny Scharf joined co-owners Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha for the reveal of the hotel lobby, coffee bar, Latin-French restaurant, outdoor dining terrace (above) and even a small smoking area.
Yes, you can smoke right out here:

And if your friends don't like it, they can wait in the lobby.

The building's basement hides another bar and a private party space and its steel-mesh facade includes an elevator accessed from the street that will (eventually) rise to a party rooftop complete with a plunge pool that, in winter, will transform into a hot tub beneath a retractable roof. So raise your spicy pineapple margarita and say "Ola!"
