Lexington Ave Might Have to Give up Dreams of Shangri-La

New, 5 comments

Once upon a time, developer Aby Rosen recruited starchitect Norman Foster for a hotel/condo tower at 610 Lexington Avenue. The hotel was set to be branded Shangri-La after a deal with the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotel & Resorts chain, and we got a peek at two Foster renderings before the project slowed down. Even after Foster's name seemed to have quietly disappeared from the project, Rosen still had hotel plans for the spot. Now, though, that's looking less likely. Crain's reports the site is headed for foreclosure after a court decision against the owners. Foreclosure could even happen before the end of this year, though we should expect some stall tactics from the owners' side. Hopefully Lord Norm will have another shot at Midtown soon enough.
