Crackdown Check-In

Following two recent fatal fires at illegal apartments, how are the city's efforts to crack down on such apartments going? According to a Daily News' investigation, the city pursued warrants for, uh, less than 1 percent of the 20,000 illegal apartment accusations it sees each year. Without warrants, cases are often closed after two attempts to get into the apartment in question. The DOB's response: warrants are hard to get. [NYDN]
