Park Avenue South's Fortress of Glassitude Not Happening?

New, 4 comments

Maybe we got excited too soon about 400 Park Avenue South, the wacky 40-story Fortress of Glassitude that looked, a year ago, like it might actually happen. The 28th Street parking lot on which the tower would have stood was closed and a demolition permit for neighboring 396 Park Avenue South approved. The website of starchitect Christian de Portzamparc even predicted completion for 2012.

Or not! The Post reports that the 20,000-square-foot site, described as "shovel-ready," is actually going on the market. One source tells the Post the site could fetch $400-plus per square foot. It does already have approvals for the Christian de Portzamparc design?and he will be in town on a few other projects.
