The federal government is negotiating a settlement with Friedland Properties over allegations that the company didn't comply with federal antidiscrimination laws in designing the UWS's Melar apartment tower. A tentative settlement called for building improvements and money set aside for any discrimination claims, and the case has other landlords worried they'll be compelled to upgrade apartments. Meanwhile, Friedland has a new UWS condo in the works, and we're guessing the U.S. Attorney's office will have an eye on it. [WSJ]
