UES's Sloane Mansion Going Up for Auction Next Month

New, 4 comments

The price on the fancy but troubled townhouse at 18 East 68th Street was chopped all the way down to $37.9 million last month. But the mansion's sob story?it sold in 2007, failed to flip for a $64 million ask, and has been languishing on the sales rack ever since?hasn't brought in a sympathetic buyer. What comes next: an auction on June 22, because the home's owners are in default on loans worth more than $28 million. The minimum bid will probably be 10 or 15 percent higher than that, according to the Times. Of course, the owners might be able to work out a deal with the bank before then, but since it hasn't happened yet, this is one auction date we'd dare to mark down in pen.
